How to Search Criminal Dockets
Begin at the Sutton County Judicial Records Search. Its two court blocks route records from 1992 forward to County Court or District Court search services. Select District Court for a felony matter and County Court for a misdemeanor. If the goal is a current hearing rather than a full case history, also inspect the criminal PDF list on the responsible clerk page. The online result and the posted setting answer different questions.
An exact cause number is the strongest search key. Newer local formats include a year, the number 218, a code segment, and a five-digit sequence. A full party name may help when the live service offers name fields, but the county landing page does not publish stable field labels. Do not invent a search format. Note the court, case number, action, and date shown on any match.
- Identify whether the matter is felony, misdemeanor, justice, or municipal.
- Open the matching county search block or clerk docket list.
- Use the exact cause number first; use a name only if the live portal offers it.
- Compare the result with the current PDF or calendar and check for resets.
- Request the charging paper, order, or judgment from the clerk when proof is needed.
Sutton Criminal Dockets by Court
Sutton County does not keep all criminal matters in one docket. The District Clerk page supplies the 112th District Court route for felonies. The County Clerk function supplies constitutional County Court misdemeanor lists. Class C charges can instead belong to the Sutton County Justice of the Peace or Sonora Municipal Court. A federal charge belongs in the Northern District of Texas and PACER, not a Sutton state-court search.
| Charge level | Local court | First route |
|---|---|---|
| Felony | 112th District Court | District search block and District Clerk list |
| Misdemeanor | Sutton County Court | County search block and County Clerk list |
| Class C | Justice or Sonora Municipal Court | Issuing court named on the citation |
The same combined clerk office performs district and county functions, but the records remain tied to distinct courts. That court label should stay with every copied cause number.
What a Criminal Docket Shows
A Sutton district criminal PDF is an upcoming-settings list. The inspected sample identifies the court, judicial officer, date, time, future dates, and row-level details. County criminal lists use a related layout. These short PDFs are useful for tracking a setting, but they do not present every filing or a complete finance and disposition history.
| Case number | A local routing key such as 24-218-CCCR-00031, or an older numeric cause. |
|---|---|
| Action | Arraignment, pre-trial, plea, adjudication, sentencing, status, revoke, or early termination. |
| Charge details | The offense and offense date shown in that public row. |
| Bond | Amount and type, which may include surety, personal recognizance, cash, or no-bond wording. |
| Setting | The court date and time attached to the listed event, subject to later change. |
Short fields such as CPL and DEF appeared without a public definition. Their meaning should not be guessed. Ask the clerk about an unfamiliar local label.
Sutton Criminal Docket Codes
DCCR appears in district criminal cause numbers, while CCCR appears in County Court criminal numbers. They are format clues. Neither code proves a charge, plea, guilt, or disposition. The court heading and full record control.
- Arraignment
- A proceeding where the charge and the accused person's response and rights are addressed.
- Pre-trial hearing
- A setting before trial for motions, evidence, plea discussions, status, or readiness.
- Adjudication
- A court determination; its exact effect depends on the record and may follow deferred adjudication.
- Motion to revoke
- A request concerning an alleged breach of probation or another conditional disposition.
- Disposition
- The formal result of a case or event, which should be verified from the judgment.
Stages on a Criminal Docket
A criminal cause can enter the Sutton docket through a charging instrument, then receive one or more settings. Arraignment and pre-trial entries address early case work. A plea or trial may lead to a judgment, while sentencing can appear as a later event. Probation-related motions may return a cause to the active calendar. Not every case follows every stage, and a reset can repeat a setting without ending the case.
Docket flow: Filing › Arraignment › Pretrial › Plea or Trial › Disposition › Sentencing
A posted action names the next event. It is not a substitute for the order entered after that event.
Sutton Criminal Docket Caseload
The Texas OCA activity database reports aggregate court work, not personal results. Sutton's FY 2024 district criminal row began with 150 active pending cases. During the year, 25 were reactivated, 23 added, 41 disposed, and 31 placed inactive. The year ended with 151 active pending.
The labels must stay distinct. Reactivated is not new, inactive is not disposed, and pending does not mean convicted. The report shows inventory movement only.
The official OCA statistics entry shows the source controls used to reach county-level reports.
This state screen is useful for context, while a named Sutton criminal case still requires the court docket or clerk record.
Which Court Holds Criminal Dockets
The 112th District Court holds Sutton felony dockets. The constitutional Sutton County Court holds misdemeanor dockets. The Justice of the Peace and Sonora Municipal Court handle their own Class C work. Sutton has no statutory county court at law listed in the official research, so that label should not be added to a search.
The official District Clerk page is the best current source for district criminal lists and combined clerk contact information.
The pictured page anchors felony access in the District Clerk function even though one Sutton office performs both clerk roles.
Sutton Criminal Dockets Before 1992
County instructions describe online judicial coverage from 1992 forward. The current request form also tells users not to enter a file date before June 1992. Older criminal material may not be digitized or fully digitized. A blank online result can therefore reflect age, the wrong court, a changed posting, delayed data, or restricted access.
For an older file, contact the combined clerk at 300 E Oak, Suite 3, Sonora, Texas 76950. The published phone is 325-387-3815, and hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., including lunch. Phone calls can clarify routing, fees, and forms, but the County Clerk says staff will not conduct civil or criminal searches by phone. In-person searching or a written request is the documented fallback.
Note: The older-record search fee mentioned by the county should be confirmed with the clerk before payment.
Public Access and Sealed Criminal Dockets
Public Sutton criminal docket PDFs provide court information, but they do not authorize access to every underlying paper. Sealed matters, juvenile records, expunction and nondisclosure material, protected personal data, and other confidential records may be absent or limited. Missing data does not show that a case never existed or was dismissed. Use the official clerk request channel and ask which law or order controls the item.
Key Rules:
Texas judicial-record access policy explains that court records follow judicial rules, statutes, and common law.
Government Code § 552.0035 excludes the judiciary from ordinary Public Information Act treatment.
Sutton's judicial records form is the local route for a described document or certified copy.
Requests may be emailed or handled for mailed delivery. Certified copies cannot be emailed. A current form lists $1 per page and $5 certification per document where applicable, with normal processing of one to two days and up to five business days allowed.
When a Sutton Criminal Case Is Missing
First verify the court level and year. Then check the current posted PDF or calendar, because a portal hit may not show the latest setting. If the case predates online coverage, use the clerk's in-person or older-record process. If it is a JP or Sonora municipal matter, contact that lower court. If the matter was appealed, consult the Fourth Court of Appeals.
For copies, send the combined clerk a clear cause number, case type, party role, file date, and exact document title. Email and mail are documented routes. The office telephone is useful for questions, not a free name search. No public criminal subscription feed or complete document-image service was found.
Best check: Treat a docket row as a scheduling clue. Rely on the filed order or certified judgment for the official result.
The county's access chain has several additional branches. A current felony setting may be confirmed through the District Clerk list or the District Court calendar. A misdemeanor setting belongs on the County Court side. A Class C citation should follow the court printed on the citation, since Justice Court and Sonora Municipal Court maintain records apart from the combined clerk. State appellate work routes to the Fourth Court of Appeals in San Antonio. A federal criminal cause routes to PACER and the Northern District of Texas, San Angelo Division. Moving between those systems without first recording the court name is a common source of false blank results.
For records that are visible online, save the source, access date, court heading, and cause number. Docket PDFs can change when a setting is reset or canceled. Calendar exports may preserve a snapshot, but an export is not certified and may become stale. If a case event matters for an appearance or deadline, contact the responsible court or counsel promptly. The Sutton clerk's office can answer process and routing questions during published hours even though it will not run the name search. A well-scoped written request should specify whether the desired item is the information, charging instrument, order, judgment, or full docket sheet.
